Giandomenico Tonatiuh Pellizzi, (Tlayacapan, Mexico, 1978)
Better known as G.T. Pellizzi, his background in architecture established straight lines in the construction of buildings within his work. His references to artistic explorations of social constructs compare the projections and predictions of the future made within the financial system with those in myths, astrology, and the ancient Greek I Ching—all complex systems constructed to make sense of reality. Monochromatic canvases and lines create the conceptual frameworks behind the sometimes minimal facade of the exhibited pieces. Themes of gentrification and urban transformation come to mind.
Pellizzi attended St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he studied literature and philosophy before moving on to the Chanin School of Architecture at Cooper Union, New York. He co-founded and participated in art collectives such as The Bruce High Quality Foundation, with whom he exhibited at the Whitney Museum of Art and MoMA PS1 in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and PAC Murcia, among others. He currently lives and works between New York City and Mexico.
